a story unto its own...

So here it is...My daughter Becca has moved...After saving her pennies, she's bought her own place, and she and her two cats Oscar and Bella have moved with her...She graduated from college and then came back home to save up to purchase her own place. And that day has come...I have loved having her here...though she works everyday and has her own life, it was great having her around...and even though she has not gone far...it just won't be the same around the homestead not seeing her shiny face everyday.
I am so very proud of my girl...
and this...has sparked dreams...and out of my dreams, comes my art...a series in fact of 14 separate panels of art...soon to be published in a magazine...but just because it's been said and done...and it's my life right now...

Here's a few of them...

sigh...each panel a story unto its own...

It's hard! So dang hard. Even when they're all grown up. Even when they come and go.

I think it's so lovely that you feel this way about your daughter... it's sad to hear about families that want a lot of space and distance.
The art you shared is beautiful. I see affection, longing, pride and growth, expressed effectively, yet simply. They are very nice.

I still live at home. It's too expensive in L.A. Like you, my mom doesn't want me to go. :) Congrats to Becca.

I know how you feel. My own baby bird will be flying to her new nest in just over a week. It's so hard to let them go.

Love the blogs!

Love the 2 cats following your daughter pic. So cute. I'm sorry they are moving out. The cats are moving too, right? lol. I don't have any children so I can only imagine the feeling of one moving out. It must be so sad. I'm sorry. Hugs.

I feel along with you Angela. My own daughter, Sarah, hasn't moved out yet. But she could someday soon. She turned 24 this year, and has lots of plans for her future.

My son is getting ready to go to college and I don't know how I'll live without him around - however, I know he needs his own world to be his. It is wonderful, though, that our kids feel they can be with us and it doesn't drive them batty (well, most of the time).
As for that artwork - I LOVE the PANELS. i truly think this is some of your best work yet and cannot wait to see it published.

I am reminded of some lines from an old t.v. show. The episode was about a little boy who raised three baby birds and then released them. The litle boy sadly remarked " The cage seem soo empty now?" His Dad replied "Yes ,but don't the trees seem nice and full."

The panels you shared definite tell me that your child is going away, but not very far, and that you are letting go. Like letting the bird go. However, she will return, and often, to visit her original nest. Take heart! You have released her, but she will still be with you, forever!

I have to agree with Deb that this is some of your best work yet. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the panels when thay are published.
My daughter has been on her own for 8 years and I see her more now than when she lived here. She keeps threatening to move back, kids and all!
I just had a flash of Danny Thomas singing "Sunrise, Sunset" , I think he was singing to you. Classic, life just goes round and round.

It's been lovely to read your blog, see your art and peek at your scrapbook from your other website. I just was doing some google searching after seeing Charmian Carr at a local singalong. What a lovely trip down memory lane I have taken. Thank you so much.

It's wonderful that Becca is getting her own place. What a great learning experience, saving for the down payment.

My 3 children are also learning the good and bad about living away from home. It took me awhile, but I have adjusted!

I really do love your panels! We care for them, then let them try their wings, then off they go!

I love your work. And, I loved you in the Sound of Music. I have three grown boys and I miss having them around. You always miss them but it does get easier in time. I never suffered the "empty nest" not until my husband and I moved. Funny. Keeping a close relationship is good and their always close. Also I want to say for some reason, my sons and I are very close because I didn't try being a friend. I am simply their Mom. VB

Recieved the latest issue of Pasticcio. As always, you and Sarah have totally outdone yourselves. I still say that you have little clones running around in order to get all your projects done! Love the article on Pan Pastels. I was asked by a local art supply store to try these on my B&W photos and I am seriously hooked! They are fabulous for backgrounds. Beautiful blending and layering of color. Little, if any dust. Great stuff!

This Becca's leaving was incredibly moving and though I have no children myself I completely relate . My niece Amanda decided it was time to move and her mom Marilyn was so distressed. You become used to them don't you. Even when it is just a fragment of their lives you share near the end , they somehow make the house less empty.

So Amanda was moving and soon we were surprised to learn where. Four houses down to a neighbor who was renting the basement. We laughed back then but it was her move to independence. She was just testing her legs and the bold moves were coming . Since then she has been to Japan and Tibet in her career as a cultural anthropologist . Now she is Edmonton Canada in a teaching position . Everything is too fast and they are always too far away.

I love your blogs A . I stop in every once in a while to check progression on your garden , your acquisitions , your art , your photo's and all your unruly girlpals . You must continue draw as I really love your drawings. Stay well my dear .

Hugs

Your daughter sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders, but I'm sure it's not easy watching her head out on her own. My daughter turned 18 this summer and will be attending college this year - while living at home...of course, I know in a few years I'll be going through exactly what you're going through right now...it won't be easy...

I wanted to tell you I absolutely love those panels - truly unique, and some of the most beautiful art I've seen recently. They are definitely a "from the heart" type of art =)

Best wishes! Peggi

Your panels are so very beautiful. My daughter is still at home but the day will come when she leaves and I dread it.

WOW. First, I am 54 y/old and have loved you since the Danny Thomas days - and then Sound of Music and Lost in Space. I even had an autographed glossy from you back in the day.

I stumbled upon this art site and your work is beautiful. My daughter did the same thing when she graduated from college 6 years ago. Came home and stayed a bit while saving for her own place.

This series is simply beautiful and expressed in a most lovely way.

Wow.

It is a pleasure to "see" you here.

I come back here today... a little over a year later... because my own daughter will be moving soon. A possible marriage in the next three months. It hurts to see her growing up. But I know it has to happen.
