refreshing the soul...

Time to refresh the soul...that calls for a walk through Descanso Gardens...
So my friend Ellen and I headed out to regroup and recharge ourselves...Descanso Gardens is the perfect place to do that...and it was a perfect spring day...

there's a new fountain at the entrance...
And then there was a walk through the lilacs...I could not believe they were still in bloom...so fragrant...they were intoxicating...

breathe deep...

On our visit to the Carriage House we chatted with the watercolor artist Belinda Del Pesco whose paintings of her trip to Rome were inspiring to say the least.

Then we headed up a new path, one that had just been cleared to see where it would take us...

Soon we found ourselves with a birds eye view of the Boddy House and the valley beyond...It was a beautiful day...and the hike was like a walk in the clouds...So we sat on a rock up there above the gardens for awhile and we talked and sat and we were quiet and sat some more and soon we felt peaceful and hopeful sitting there on hope rock.
yeah...I needed that...

child's play...

I don't think I have posted this shot I took of me and my sheltie Peyton. She's so cute, even in shadow form. The days have been gorgeous here in LA...there's a bite in the air...Yay, sweater weather... the skies have been blue. I took a break this afternoon, to stretch my legs and wander through my garden to see what's getting ready to bloom and what needs to get done, and I found myself mystified by the way the sun interpreted the scarf I was wearing...engaging it in some sun shadows...

There's an interview that was just posted on this cool site called Creativity Portal...It's a cool site and there's lots to look at...if you read the interview you will see, I am not always playing like a child in the sun...
only as often as I can...

"Trust me...You gotta read the new issue of Pasticcio Quartz Issue 6!
It's so jam-packed with articles, tips, new art, books, history, photography, products, quotes, thoughts and words...it's taking me longer than 24 hours to read it.
Damn it! There's a big sale on back issues too and I'm busy saving the world!"

adding splice to your life...

Here is my article in the newest edition of Digital Studio magazine. In it I show how I splice my sketches digitally. It's a technique I stumbled on through trial and error and lots of practice.

Sometimes I get the urge to keep my discoveries to myself. But that is not what art is about. Take my shadows...I have been incorporating shadows in my art and photography for nearly ten years...now I am starting to see shadows in other artists art. Am I being copied? Have I been inspiring? Is the circle of art spinning around in its own good time...Is imatation the biggest source of flattery?...I can't worry myself with such things...I know that my shadow is the way I discover myself...it is my journey and what my art expresses about me. I am thrilled when I hear you are using my shadow stamps in your art...run with your art...stamp out your emotions...dance through this life...that is what I'm doing...one splice and shadow at a time...

new apprentice in town...

There's a new magazine in town...
Somerset Apprentice. I just got my premire issue and it is really neat.
There are alot of you out there that just don't know where to begin...you want to make some art, but just how do you make that ? Where do you begin?

Well Apprentice is a good place to start because it's filled with awesome ideas...cool step by step how to's with easy to understand instructions and close up photos. You'll find my contribution on Page 126...The Joy Of Gesso, which if you don't know by now...is my favorite material to use in my photo art.

Art should be fun...and this magazine is a good way to have some. If your local art store or newsstand doesn't have it...you can order it directly from Stampington...

I have another article that hit the stands this week and I will post about that in a couple of days...hang in there...
