the secret garden

perhaps it is not so secret...I had a potager garden on my list of things to get done...and today was the day to do it.
What is a potager garden you ask?

A potager garden is a French method of creating ornamental vegetable or kitchen gardens. Often flowers (edible and non-edible) and herbs are planted with the vegetables to enhance the beauty. The goal is to make the function of providing food aesthetically pleasing. Plants are chosen as much for their functionality as for their color and form.

So I started with some galvanized tubs, bags of soil and a trip to the Descanso Gardens Plant sale.
Becca said she wanted to help me so while she went and put the music on, I did some hard labor.

We set about planting the herbs and veggies to the sounds of Sting, Sarah, Billy and Paul on a truly beautiful LA day.

Becca confided in me that she had always wanted to plant a secret garden after she had read the book of the same name.

...hours passed...
"My garden of pots is like some living diary, a collection of occasions, memories, places and friendships." Sara Midda

And so in this little corner, this little corner of my backyard, a garden grows.

I have Buddha to watch over my tea herbs.
Now we will sit and wait and see what Spring will bring.

Just beautiful! How exciting it is to plant a new garden. I am so hopeful that you will post pictures of the growing process.

I just posted a few pictures of my garden today. My Sweet Peas and boysenberries are blooming and I just planted 3 fruit trees.

What a beautiful day to garden here in Southern California.

Spring brings new growth. I am an Angela Cartwright fan in the truest meaning.
Lost in space was one of the shows I liked best, but you made me love it. I loved it like Mr Nobody. As a 45 year old man with self acclaimed great taste and accomplishment, I am humbled by your presence, carreer and talent. Please take a moment to blush because the list of people who have moved me as much, is very short. I could do this all day but in respect of your blog I offer Subjects of beauty to the beautiful subject. http://www.xs4all.nl/~kwanten/history.htm
GINKGO BILOBA -The Ginkgo Pages-History Perfect for a secret garden.

I sware life just gets better!

HI MS Cartwright, I can't explain it, but the picture of you holding the bag of potting soil and wearing work gloves is my {all-time} favorite picture of you. I don't know if its because of "been there done that" or it makes you seem more of a real person. Great photos [ esp. the bucket and feet] >PEACE
