Hello, Penny. I don't know what I am....Penny.

Just kidding around, sorry. But you'll always be Penny Robinson to me. Lost in Space was my favorite show as a kid. I was 6 years old in 1966 when it came out, and I still remember our family gathering around the television to watch the Space Family Robinson embark on their amazing journey to Alpha Centauri. It was a big deal after all for us, all being seasoned voyagers on Irwin Allen's "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" so we expected big things from Lost in Space, and we weren't disappointed in the least.

Every week your show took us on adventures so wonderful and fantastic that I honestly think it helped open our minds. Your show took us into places we'd never imagined on our own. From one of my 1st season favorites, the adventure of "The Hungry Sea" to the hauntingly stirring and unforgettable "Mr Nobody" to one of my all time favorites, "The Promised Planet" Lost in Space was hands down my all time favorite show back then. I liked it much more than Star Trek, although we of course liked that too.

For me Lost in Space was about more than space exploration or the adventures, but the family bonds and morals and mores that we all cherished so much back in those days. And Penny Robinson was our favorite female character on the show. All the boys loved Penny, me more than any. You were my first crush in fact. I'll never forget seeing you do that little slide shuffle dance you did on The Promised Planet, which was almost hypnotizing to watch. And I'll never forget your voice, echoing in the empty cave in the haunting Mr Nobody, or when you fell through the Platinum mirror in "The Magic Mirror". There was no girl cooler or more loved in the late 60's than Penny Robinson.

We loved you Penny. We loved the whole Robinson family. You were a big part of our family back then, more so than I think you can know, being an actor and part of the production and all. For us it was magic. Magic like we'd never seen. Concepts and ideas that were capable of lifting us beyond the humdrum of daily life into a magical world where anything was possible and where nothing was stronger than love.

I don't mean to ramble or overindulge in praise but if you knew what that show meant to me and my siblings and even our parents enjoyed it with us. I remember the one year our Mom bought us little copper Medallions out of the Spencer Gift catalog, just because we'd seen something like them on the episode "The Sky is Falling".

Lost in Space really meant something to us, and now that its available on Hulu I can't tell you the joy its been seeing it again. The show is timeless.

Its good to see you have a blog Mrs Cartright, but I hope you'll forgive me because to me you'll always be Penny Robinson. You were wonderful.

It's great to be able to tell you this.

Thank you...Penny.

By the way, the photo is me in 1968. You'll have to forgive my apparel, I'm wearing my Captain Kirk Gold dress tunic. But I did have a V neck long sleeve shirt with a mock turtle collar like the Robinson men wore too. It wasn't exact but it was close enough to pretend I was Will.
