This got me thru a serious illness. All I wanted to do that day is walk to the end of my driveway and back. It has become my mantra.

My favorite quote is so weird..."Try not. Do or do not, there is no try." This Yoda quote from Empire Strikes Back (30 years old this week) leads me thru the hardest of time...

I've just encountered this quotation, and I think it is absolutely wonderful!

"It had long come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things." -- Johann Goethe

I'm about to do a post on my blog linking back to this post!

Delighted that you're featured in another book (and it's cool that you're the most unruly. Unruly people are the sort who "go out and happen to things" as in the quote above.)

The above is one of my favorite quotes and so true... and as I approach 54... it's beginning to sink in.

Wow! love these quotes.....I am going to have to come back often to read as more are added!

I collect quotes, I have many favs but the one that I use most often is

'You were born an original, don't die a copy'

I was raised in a family where being individual and unique was extremely frowned upon.

It has taken alot of work to de-program myself and celebrate the uniqueness in me, of me, that is me.

Eternity has begun. I don't know if you'd call it a quote because it's a thought I have with me most of the time, but it's my favorite thought. Will that do? Congratulations on being featured in this magazine--how incredible!!

I like both of these:

In literature as in love, we are astonished at what is chosen by others. Andre Maurois

There are lots of ways of being miserable, but there's only one way of being comfortable, and that is to stop running round after happiness. If you make up your mind not to be happy there's no reason why you shouldn't have a fairly good time. Edith Wharton

I have used this quote since my 25 year old son was an unhappy middle schooler. "A person is as happy as he makes up him mind to be." Abe Lincoln. It still puts a smile our faces.
WOuld love to win the book!

"If you're going through Hell, keep going."-Winston Churchill. When I'm going through hard times I always think of the British fighter pilots who faced overwhelming odds and death on a daily basis while defending their homeland against the Nazis during World War Two. My problems seem very trivial when I think of what those young men went through. I hope all of my fellow Veterans and everyone else has a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I loved your pictures from your trip Angela!! I loved Hong Kong when I visited there while I was in the Navy. Take care, Richard.

Wow, I'm reading through the quotes and some, combined with the music (What other blogger has Nessun Dorma as background music?), are givng me the chills.

Here's another one I like, from the Tempest or at least from the music by Purcell:

"Halcyon days, now wars are ending,
You shall find wheree'er you sail,
Tritons all the while attending
With a kind and gentle gale.

"See, see, the heavens smile,
With clouds no more o'ercast,
In this now happy isle
Are all your sorrows past.

"No stars again shall hurt you from above,
But all your days
But all your days
But all your days shall pass in peace and love."

We played this at my father's funeral. I believe on good evidence that it was the last piece of music he ever listened to, just days before he died. It never fails to bring me to tears.

And then in my beautiful, vital, golden mother's obituary:

"Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimneysweepers, come to dust."

Margaret
