part 6...a forbidden china...

Onward to the Forbidden City...or simply The Palace...Elegant and awe inspiring.

An incredible amount of tourists pass through the walls of The Forbidden City everyday.
However it is so massive...you can actually find corners and vistas with no one in sight...if you are patient enough...
You cannot help but get swept away into it's stoic presence.

  carvings adorn the rooftops...
color designs wash the walls

concubines quarters keep their secrets...

Click here for some interesting facts about the history of The Forbidden City if you desire to read more.

Also on our visit to China we saw Tiananmen Square where it was FREEZING...and Panda hats and Mao watches were the hot selling items on the square...
(son) Jesse, (daughter) Becca, (friends) Jack and Curt

We ate Peking Duck Dinner.at a restaurant where this sea lion was swimming around...strange... The duck was pretty good...but one of the courses tasted like dirty socks...
We saw the Birds Nest and the Aquatics Center at the Olympic Green...
  beautiful pieces of architecture.

Besides the Forbidden City my favorite was the Temple of Heaven. Just southeast of Beijing, it's where royalty prayed for a good harvest. In Ming Dynasty AD1420, the emperor Zhuli built this temple which covers an area of 2.72 million square meters.
In the courtyard leading to the temple there was all sorts of music and dancing and people playing cards and games and they were celebrating and having a good time. And that was a good and unusual thing to see...here in Beijing.

Very spectacular to see. I've taught for years on the Chinese and Asian history but have never had the opportunity to go. My family has been missionaries there since the early 1800 and still I've not been. I feel one can't adequately teach it until one experiences it. Someday.
Love the close up details.

Have you had a chance to catch up on 24?

While I'd started watching Lost In Space during the second season, I'm new to the website and need an introduction to the wonderful people in your picture's of the sights in China and other parts of Asia.

Hello, Mrs. Cartwright:

My name is Rodrigo, I write from Brazil.
If you read this message: GREAT for me!
I found your blog, after seeing a beautiful picture when you were young(er); so cool...
I watched some films where you acted: SOUND OF THE MOVIE (a classic!), BEYOND OF THE POSEIDON (too sad; were you one of the characters who died? OMG!).
And your blog is very nice; your trip to China - amazing!
So, have you ever been to Brazil? It´s good here, in spite of the problems...
Ah, and Happy Mother´s Day; you seem to be a great one!

Lots of luck,
Rodrigo O. Rosa

Lovely pix! You should also try to visit Nepal, which is where the pagoda-style architecture came from. And Cambodia has similar architecture, but the colors and decorations are even more dazzling. And the food is better, IMHO :-)
