doll follies

In the latest issue of "Art Doll Quarterly" there is an article on a fun project for the holidays about my ornament dolls. At our Christmas Mah Jongg game we always exchange ornaments and last year I made these for my gal friends with their images. I also made some for my kids. They are fun and easy to make.

There is also an article about my "Sound of Music" sister Debbie Larsen who played my younger sister Marta in the movie. She makes her Santa Clauses all by hand. I remember when we went to Salzburg, Austria for a SOM reunion, we hit every store in the city looking for buttons and accoutrements to add to their clothing. Check out her website where you can see them and her other endeavors.
I don't think I have mentioned it yet that I am working on my second book for Rockport Publishing. My first book for Rockport, "In This House", I wrote with Sarah Fishburn and embraces the art of 11 other artists. It's due to be released July 2007. This book that I am working on now is consuming every waking moment of my life...more about its contents when I get the ok to talk about it.
Let's just say I wish Coco Cellini was a better typist...

I had better get back to work now...

Have you ever come across the magazine, "Cloth, Paper, Scissors"? I think you would find it very interesting. I never read it that I don't feel like rushing off to the art supply store to see what I can find.

Angela, if Coco isn't pulling his own weight...then perhaps you should kick him to the curb. Then again, Coco probably doesn't eat very much at all, so I'd say keep him for a while longer to see if he works out! (lol) Looking forward to hearing about that additional book you are working on.

Your 'sis' Debbie Turner recently posted a few pics of her very latest Santas (HarleyD Santas) on the SOM Message Board here and here. I found that particular Art magazine at a Borders book store and it was fun to read about your doll project and about Debbie's work as well.

Not one, but two books to look forward to! Where do you find the time?

Will definitely get the "Art Doll Quarterly" - my daughter and I were trying to come up with something new - a new look for our Christmas tree this year - and ornament dolls sound like a fun project...

Glad to see little Coco helping out & congrats on the two books - awesome! =)

I teach 5th graders, and need new ideas. Do you think the ornamental dolls would be something that kids could do? It looks like it would be a neat Christmas project that they would be able to keep forever.

Coco is having such an interesting life! He's a mover and a shaker!

Angela,
I bought the magazine last night after signing up for an international art doll exchange. I had been thinking about knitted bodies for dolls...so I really appreciate your article sharing your lovely idea. I have done minature sweaters for tree ornaments in the last few years..so this will be fun to experiment with!
Thanks for sharing your artistic ideas!
